AutoSettle relies on accurate and up-to-date data from national vehicle databases, including the Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR) and the National Exchange of Vehicle and Driver Information System (NEVDIS), to verify vehicles. If your vehicle can't be verified, it may be due to one of the following reasons:
Vehicle Reported as Stolen or Written-Off
If your vehicle has been reported as stolen or written off, AutoSettle cannot proceed with the transaction. Such statuses indicate significant legal or safety concerns, making the vehicle ineligible for sale through our platform.
Vehicle Manufactured Before 1989
Vehicles manufactured prior to 1989 may not have a standardised 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), which is essential for verification. Without a valid VIN, it's challenging to retrieve consistent data from national databases.
Imported Vehicles with Altered VINs
Imported vehicles that have had their VINs removed, replaced, or modified may not align with Australian records. Such discrepancies hinder our ability to verify the vehicle's history and legality - and also to protect both parties to a transaction.
Incorrect or Mismatched Registration Details
If the registration details provided (e.g., license plate number) don't match official records, verification will fail. This could be due to recent plate changes or data entry errors.
Outstanding Financial Encumbrances
Vehicles with existing financial obligations (e.g., loans) registered against them are flagged during verification. It's crucial to clear any outstanding debts before proceeding with the sale.
Data Unavailability or Errors in National Databases
Occasionally, NEVDIS or PPSR may have missing or outdated information, leading to verification issues. In such cases, contacting your state or territory road authority can help rectify the data.
What Should I Do?
If you're facing verification challenges, we recommend:
- Double-checking all entered details for accuracy.
- Ensuring the vehicle isn't reported as stolen or written off.
- Confirming there are no outstanding financial obligations.
- Contacting your local road authority to update or correct vehicle records.
