Meeting for A Test Drive

Meeting for A Test Drive

Meeting in person is an exciting step in buying or selling a vehicle. It’s essential to prioritise safety and choose a location where both parties feel comfortable and secure.

Whether you're a Buyer or Seller, it’s always okay to say: “Let’s meet somewhere public and safe.”

General Safety Guidelines for Meeting in Person

Follow these simple, common-sense rules to keep the process smooth and safe:

  • Meet in a public location - see our full list of Safe Sites
    Great options include:

    • Shopping centre car parks

    • Petrol stations

    • Police station car parks

    • Tyre and Auto centres

  • Meet during daylight hours
Daytime meetings offer better visibility and reduce risk for both parties.

  • Let someone know your plans
Share your meeting details (time and place) with a friend or family member.

  • Bring a friend if possible
A second set of eyes can help with the inspection - and it adds peace of mind.

If a meeting spot doesn’t feel right, you’re always free to reschedule or suggest another location.

Test Drives – What to Know

For Buyers:

  • Use the Test Drive feature in AutoSettle to set the date, time, and location.

  • Bring your valid driver’s licence to confirm your identity.

  • Be prepared for the Seller to join you during the drive.

For Sellers:

  • Always ask to see the Buyer’s licence before the test drive.

  • Choose a short, familiar route with light traffic that you're comfortable with.

  • Consider joining the test drive - or bring along a friend for added reassurance.

If at any point either party feels unsure or uncomfortable, it’s absolutely fine to decline or reschedule the test drive.

Your safety and comfort always come first.
